“After many years of back trouble I finally took the advice of my osteopath and started Pilates. Classes are fun, Amanda explains each exercise well and small groups mean she is able to give individual attention where necessary. I have noticed a marked improvement in my back and wish I started with Amanda years ago!”

Pilates: What You Need to Know

Pilates is a safe exercise format. With exercises combining strengthening, flexibility and relaxation, it is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and is often recommended by medical practitioners across the world. Pilates utilises your own body weight to create resistance for your muscles in order to tone them up and strengthen your entire body. Because Pilates works your muscles from the inside, both independently and together in coordination, it can produce a deep strength and tone which is not always easily achievable with some other forms of exercise.

At Rebalance & Condition Pilates classes, exercises can be adapted so everyone is capable of achieving a beneficial result. The intensity can increase as and when your body capability improves and it is safe to do so, providing a more challenging workout.

Pilates can have the following benefits:

  • Increase in mental and physical stamina
  • Increase in strength and muscle tone
  • Improved flexibility and posture
  • Improved balance and coordination
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Improved sleep
  • Less likely to suffer from muscular and joint aches and pain

Whilst Pilates is safe to practice, you should always seek permission from your medical practitioner before starting any new form of exercise. I was first introduced to Amanda and her Pilates classes by a friend just over 6 years ago. I was just getting over two operations and I was determined to carry through the advice of the Consultant, who recommended Pilates and gentle exercise at first, to strengthen my pelvic and core muscles and return to good, active health.Amanda was very thorough I went to her studio at her home twice, for 1 hr sessions. These were for Amanda to get to know me, my body, my past medical history and what I felt I wanted to get out of pilates. So when I went to my first class with my friend, I did not feel anxious, as I knew Amanda would be there talking me through and watching carefully, to ensure that all the exercises and stretches were carried out correctly.I have now been attending Amanda’s classes for just 6 years and in that time my body is much stronger, I have improved my complete body strength and for 69 I think I am doing pretty well and most of all, I really enjoy attending every week. The classes are fun too, we have a lovely mixed group of all ages and everyone is made to feel very welcome.Amanda is very professional in all she does, brings all the equipment we need, we just need to come with enthusiasm and a wish to be fit and healthy, which in turn as we get older, is so very importantCome and see for yourself!

Meet Amanda, your Pilates Teacher

Amanda completed her initial Pilates training with Body Control Pilates. Over the years Amanda has continued to participate in Pilates classes and courses with many leading Pilates teachers from a variety of professional bodies allowing her to develop a real breadth of knowledge to pass onto her clients.

Amanda really believes ‘less is more’ when teaching Pilates. If multiple repetitions of an exercise are performed incorrectly it could lead to potential strain and further tension. Instead, with proper consideration and a layered approach clients will learn and reinforce improved movement patterns for their body achieving a more effective result.

At Rebalance and Condition Pilates classes Amanda adapts exercises so that everyone is capable of achieving a beneficial result. The intensity can increase as and when your body capability improves and it is safe to do so, providing a more challenging workout.

Amanda has taught Pilates to children and adults of all ages and abilities for many years. She thoroughly enjoys working with the variety of people who come to her classes enabling them to move more freely and feel better. Classes are relaxed and friendly but we work hard too!
